On 19 January 2017, Memory Stone, a subsidiary of the Antwerp Serax company, won the Henry van de Velde Award in the Feel Good category, for their simple and stylish gravestones and urns. The designs arise from the notion that every funeral is special and unique, and that commemoration after a death can be experienced in different ways.
Axel Enthoven designs the contemporary styled gravestones and urns for Memory Stone. They are both distinctive and timeless and have a familiar feel. After all, the manner in which someone lived their life does not stop when they die. In the present and future, it is also possible to pass on their lifestyle to their next of kin.
That this vision is clearly shared and enjoyed was evident at the celebratory presentation of the Henry van de Velde Awards, where Memory Stone won an award in the Feel Good category. An exhibition featuring all the nominated and winning entries accompanied the celebratory presentation. This free exhibition runs until 10 March in the Foyers of BOZAR.
About the Henry van de Velde Awards: De Henry van de Velde Awards shine the spotlights on designers and businesses with the presentation of the so-called Special Awards; the Henry van de Velde Lifetime Achievement Award, the Henry van de Velde Company Award and the Henry van de Velde Young Talent Award. In addition, in collaboration with the OVAM, Flanders DC gives out the Design Solution awards. Here the focus is on products, projects or services, which arise from a design methodology or attitude, and that respond fully or partly to current social, economic and climatic issues. These awards are presented in various categories: OVAM Ecodesign PRO, Efficiency, Life Quality, Feel Good, Communication, Better Health, Collective and Design Research.
