In March 2018, a brand-new food hotspot serving Indonesian cuisine was launched in the Dutch capital. Bumbu Kitchen, located in the NH Collection Amsterdam Doelen Hotel, is the result of the combined forces of two aces of the Dutch hospitality scene: the successful entrepreneur Casper Reinders and top chef Jaimie van Heije. A unique new niche in the heart of Amsterdam with a scenic view of the boats sailing by on the Amstel river where you can enjoy a delicious breakfast, an original lunch, a convivial dinner, and even delicious cocktails in an atmospheric setting at the bar around the vibrant open kitchen. Casper’s quirky interior, and Jamie’s Indonesian delicacies, assisted by the Serax collections Aqua, and Surface by Sergio Herman, along with the Pure cutlery by Pascale Naessens, unite the East with the West, vintage with contemporary and above all ... convivial with delicious.

The idiosyncratic Amsterdam entrepreneur Casper Reinders, owner of, amongst others, the Lion Noir, Jimmy Woo and the Libertine Cafés, designed the interior of his new project with Jaimie van Heije. In his characteristic way, he relied entirely on his intuition. Without ever looking at 'what other people do’ he went about it in his own way. This is how he imagined it, and that is exactly how it turned out. Modern and austere, like the Pure cutlery by Pascale Naessens, but packed with vintage accents. A bold colour palette that stretches from the purple hues of the interior to the colourful Aqua and Surface Camogreen plates ensures a particularly warm atmosphere and a distinctive class that becomes the restaurant of a five-star hotel such as the NH Doelen.

Just like Casper, the man responsible for the culinary interpretation, gastronomic talent Jaimie van Heije, has already built up an impressive CV. He once worked in the kitchen of the three-star restaurant Oud Sluis, he has served under Ron Blaauw, he has his own restaurant in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, and he contributed to the great success of The Avocado Show. Being the grandson of Indonesian epicureans, he had been toying with the idea of translating the tasty memories of his grandmother’s dishes into an Asian concept with a western twist, for many years. With the menu for Bumbu Kitchen Amsterdam, he has realised this dream, allowing the whole world to enjoy the flavours of his native roots, and his passion for exquisite food.
