Shadow

HALF HAT WIRE NETTING 48X29 H17
Designer:
Throughout his life, artist and designer Terry Powell was fascinated by birds. Their anatomy, their ability to fly, combining the functional lightweight with graceful power. A combination that is ever present in his works, embodying them, as it were.
The Shadow collection includes five everyday shapes, meticulously crafted from lightweight chicken wire: half a hat, a tennis racket, the back of a chair, a shovel, and a whistling kettle in a cube. The ingenious way in which a roll of chicken wire has been transformed leads to a game of light and shadow that creates an optical illusion. Terry Powell, an incorrigible perfectionist, an artist who never ceased to venture to the very boundaries of perfectionism: if a work did not meet his extremely high standards, it was recreated again and again, until he was completely satisfied. His creations reflect both his interest in mechanics and visual beauty, from the drawing table to the perception of the viewer. An artistic game of rococo impressions which he had always found poetic, fascinating and vulgar at the same time.
